The Effect of Intercropping of Lablab (Lablab purpureus L.) and Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) at Different Planting Densities on in vitro and in sacco Dry Matter Digestibility of Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum)

Background: The advantage of intercropping is the more efficient utilization all available resources and increased productivity compared with each sole crop mixture. If cowpea Lablab Napier grass its nutritional values was improved. Methods: experimental design factorial combination arrangement in randomized complete block three inter intra spaces (1 m × 0.5 m, 0.75 m) two tropical legumes. Treatments were T1= Pure at 1 row spacing, T2= intercropped lablab T3= T4= T5= T6= T7= T8= T9= spacing totally nine treatments used. Soil samples collected before after forage harvested. Result: different planting densities had significant effect (P less than 0.05) on vitro dry organic matter digestibility (IVDMD, IVOMD) digestibility. OM degradation constant significantly but ‘ED’ not for DM ‘c’ ‘b’ non-significant greater densities. In conclusion, a density 24 plants m-2 better choice high yield quality.
